Why Do This Course?
A Work Capability Assessment is a process to determine whether your illness or disability causes you problems in managing work. Undergoing a Work Capability Assessment can:
- Increase your benefit
- Get a better deal for your wages, or your partner’s wages
- Ensure that you are not required to do unrealistic jobseeking or work-related-activity
Some people automatically pass the Work Capability Assessment but most people have to complete questionnaires and take part in face-to-face assessments.
Many people have to go through the reconsideration or appeal process to get the correct result.
By doing the course you will:
- Understand the processes for assessments, reconsiderations and appeals
- Understand the concepts of Limited Capability for Work and Limited Capability for Work Related Activity
- Understand the practical consequences of a Work Capability Assessment on benefit entitlements
- Be able to identify which of your service users meet which DWP criteria
- Be more effective at communicating your service users’ needs to the staff involved in the assessments
- Be able to support service users to understand the processes, to get the right result and to challenge incorrect decisions through mandatory reconsiderations and appeals
- Be able to make use of the benefits book and official sources to find the information that you need
- Feel confident to call me if you get stuck
