Why Do This Course?
Personal Independence Payment is a benefit for people whose illness or disability causes problems with daily living or mobility.
Usually claiming PIP involves providing detailed information in a PIP2 questionnaire and then attending an assessment of your physical needs, your intellectual ability and your mental wellbeing.
Many people have to use the reconsideration or appeal processes to get the correct result.
By doing the course you will:
- Understand the purpose of PIP
- Understand how the DWP assesses care and mobility needs
- Understand the consequences of an award of PIP on other benefit entitlements
- Understand the processes of decisions, reconsiderations and appeals
- Be able to identify which of your service users meet which DWP criteria
- Be more effective at communicating your service users’ needs to the staff involved
- Be able to support service users to understand the processes, to get the right result and to challenge incorrect decisions through mandatory reconsiderations and appeals
